What to do after an accident in New Jersey

You now have insurance, but do you know what to do in case of an accident in New Jersey?

Obviously, no one wants to be in an accident and being prepared is the 1st step.  In the event of an accident, it's best to have all your documents and procedures ready to prevent any further confusion in a stressful time.

Always immediately check to see if anyone is injured and if so call 911.  If there's only property damage, the police can be called if needed.

Try to stay as calm as possible.  Stay at the scene but make sure to get to a safe area and off the roadway.  If the vehicle is safe to drive, pull it to the side of the road in a safe place.

Avoid discussing who is at fault in the accident.  Documentation is very important, so exchange information with all parties involved.  Helpful information will be names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, year, make and model of vehicles involved, license plate numbers, and insurance carriers and policy numbers.

Pictures or video can also be very helpful down the road when submitting claims and talking to the insurance company.

Inform your insurance company promptly.  Be truthful about what happened. Your agent will then be able to give you the information you will need to move forward.  Contact Karabulut and Co Insurance Agency if you have any questions about your New Jersey auto insurance policy.
